1.2 What's in this Manual

This manual is intended as a quick guide to extracting information from OSSE database. As such, it is designed for the inexperienced IGORE user, though experienced IGORE users may find many of it's exercises useful. Many of the exercises are based on actual Guest Investigator inquiries. If your analysis requirements cannot be met by this guide, contact the GRO/OSSE Instrument Specialist at the address below. Your analysis requirements may provide the basis for exercises in the next release of this guide. If your analysis requirements are highly specialized, you may need to expand your knowledge of IGORE. The IGORE User's Guide can familiarize you with the operational concepts of IGORE. The primary purpose of this manual is to provide a description of IGORE system procedures and functions which will be of use for typical OSSE data analysis. See the OSSE Data Analysis User's Guide for additional examples and more details regarding the use of these procedures and functions in the analysis of OSSE data. Beyond that is theIGORE Users Utility Reference Manual provides detailed documentation of the low-level functions and procedures in IGORE. As before, the GRO/OSSE Instrument Specialist is available for assistance.

This manual does not describe native IDL commands; a description of the IDL system and syntax can be found in the IDL User's Guide or using the IDL on-line help command by typing ? at the Igore> prompt. On-line help for many of the commands described in this document can either be accessed via the command IGRHELP at the Igore> prompt, or using the IDL library documentation facilities DOC_LIBRARY or XDL. The latter requires X-Window support at the user's terminal.
