* HEASARC is moving from Compaq(DEC) TruUNIX to Red Hat Linux servers.
1. test database setup on Linux has tested 2-3x faster than
the current database setup.
* HEASARC webserver change to a redundant load balanced setup.
1. Phase 1: by 7/1/02
- Move webservices to a single Linux AMD server.
- Move database services to 2 Linux AMD, one primary
the second a redundant backup.
2. Phase 2: by 9/1/02
- Clone 2 additional Linux AMD servers as duplicates of HEASARC.
- Install and test BIG-IP (http://www.f5.com/f5products/bigip/520-540)
- Investigate load balancing of the database machines.
3. Phase 3: by 10/1/02
- Bring all 3 Linux webservers online behind the BigIP load balancer
* TheBigIP Load Balancer will act as a middleman for all IP requests. It
will monitor the health and availability of all machines under it's
configuration control and will forward requests to the least used machine.
(There are several load balancing algorithms available on BigIP)
