Specific Time: Y
Start: 2020-04-14 00:00 UTC
End: 2020-05-01 00:00 UTC
Remarks: The time window is obtained considering both NICER observability constraints (elongation and expected SNR) and scheduled observations with Swift. As comet ATLAS will approach the Sun during this period, the heliocentric distance will decrease from 1.2 to 0.8 AU. A contemporary increase of the source signal (2x) and a decrease of the average X-ray BG (>2x) suggest a preference for a later date.

Coordinate Observation: N
Observatory:
Description: ATLAS will be observed during 3 vi sits (57 ksec) with Swift in the period April 14 May 1. A simultaneous NICER observation, possibly close to the May 1 Swift s visit, would be a key point to cross-calibrate and fully interpret the data, considering this would be the first NICER observation of a comet, and also helpful for upcoming observation of two comets in Cycle 2 (accepted proposal #3043).
Uninterrupted: N
Justification:
Estimated Count Rate (cts s-1): 0.100
