The AMCS

AMCS is the acronym for ROSAT's Attitude Measurement and Control System. Three-axes stabilized pointing is achieved by using gyros and momentum wheels. An important feature of the system is the high torque of the momentum wheels which allow fast slews (180 degrees in tex2html_wrap_inline1842 minutes). Thus it is possible to observe two targets on opposite hemispheres during each ROSAT orbit.
