This section describes the wide-field camera (WFC) and its scientific performance based on in-flight measurements and calibration. The WFC is an autonomous instrument having its own star tracker (to provide aspect information), thermal control system and command and data handling system (CDHS).  The WFC relies upon the ROSAT spacecraft for power, on-board data storage and telemetry. Data are queued into the spacecraft data handling system by the WFC CDHS.
