# TESS Program G09010 Title: Searching For Orbital Decay In Ultra-Short-Period Planets To Constrain Planet Formation Models PI: Becker, Juliette - University Of Wisconsin-Madison Type: SMALL Summary: Ultra-short-period (USP) planets, with orbital periods $\lesssim 1$ day, occupy the extreme inner edge of the exoplanet population and provide important clues to planet formation and migration. Competing models predict different levels of ongoing tidal orbital decay, making decay measurements a key test of USP formation pathways. We propose to obtain new 20-s and 120-s cadence observations from TESS Cycle 9 to extend the observational baseline for 54 known USP planets. By measuring precise transit times and searching for deviations from a linear ephemeris, we will detect or constrain orbital period decay and translate these results into limits on the stellar tidal quality factor $Q_*$.
