The files in this directory represent a streamlined, self-contained set of support files for conducting XRISM simulations using heasim and, e.g., Xspec. The file simfiles/xrism/auxiliary/xselect.mdb.heasim may be used to extract data products from heasim event files. The heasim manual (https://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/FTP/xarm/simulation/heasim_20170825.pdf) may be consulted for additonal details on simulation files and procedures. ############################################################################### Resolve The Resolve RMFs include only the core Gaussian part of the LSF; resolutions of 5, 6, 7, and 8 eV are provided. Provisionally, the 5 and 6 (7 and 8) eV files correspond to high- and mid-resolution events in the nominal (requirement-satisfying) case. Non-X-ray background (NXB) spectra, likewise convolved with LSFs of 5, 6, 7, and 8 eV for use with the corresponding RMF, are based on Hitomi pre-launch estimates with the addition of MnK-alpha and K-beta features with fluxes estimated by the instrument team. These are consistent with in-flight Hitomi SXS NXB spectra derive using the "sxsnxbgen' ftool. The Resolve ARF files include the quantum efficiency and the optical blocking filter transmission of the Hitomi SXS detector. These range over energies 0.11-25 keV and include gate-valve open ("noGV") and closed ("withGV") versions. Note that the gate valve for XRISM has a different structure compared to the Hitomi one, so the effective area is different and the above ARFs were made with the new gate valve model (the CalDB file for which is included in the XRISM Build 3 CalDB release). In addition to these Filter Wheel Open files, ARFs for Beryllium filter ("BeFw") and Neutral density ("ND") filter selections are provided (the gate valve is assumed open in these cases). The "heasim" ARFs (e.g., resolve_pnt_heasim_noGV_20190701.arf) are scaled according to the provided PSF files and are to be used for heasim simulation, while the "spec" ARFs (e.g., resolve_pnt_spec_noGV_20190701.arf) are to be used for fitting spectra extracted from heasim simulations. The "pnt:, "flt", and "bet" descriptors in the spectral fitting ARF files refer to point-like, flat (5 arcmin radius circle), and beta model (beta=0.53, core radius 1.26 arcmin) spatial distributions. Under the simfiles/xrism/resolve directory, response/resolve_h5ev_2019a.rmf -- use for heasim and spectral fitting response/resolve_h7ev_2019a.rmf -- use for heasim and spectral fitting response/resolve_m6ev_2019a.rmf -- use for heasim and spectral fitting response/resolve_m8ev_2019a.rmf -- use for heasim and spectral fitting response/resolve_pnt_heasim_noGV_20190701.arf -- use for heasim response/resolve_pnt_heasim_withGV_20190701.arf -- use for heasim response/resolve_pnt_heasim_BeFw_20190701.arf -- use for heasim response/resolve_pnt_heasim_ND_20190701.arf -- use for heasim response/resolve_pnt_spec_noGV_20190701.arf -- use for spectral fitting response/resolve_pnt_spec_withGV_20190701.arf -- use for spectral fitting response/resolve_pnt_spec_BeFw_20190701.arf -- use for spectral fitting response/resolve_pnt_spec_ND_20190701.arf -- use for spectral fitting response/resolve_bet_spec_noGV_20190611.arf -- use for spectral fitting response/resolve_bet_spec_withGV_20190611.arf -- use for spectral fitting response/resolve_flt_spec_noGV_20190611.arf -- use for spectral fitting response/resolve_flt_spec_withGV_20190611.arf -- use for spectral fitting background/resolve_h5ev_2019a_rslnxb.pha -- use with resolve_h5ev_2019a.rmf background/resolve_h7ev_2019a_rslnxb.pha -- use with resolve_h7ev_2019a.rmf background/resolve_m6ev_2019a_rslnxb.pha -- use with resolve_m6ev_2019a.rmf background/resolve_m8ev_2019a_rslnxb.pha -- use with resolve_m8ev_2019a.rmf The PSF (psf image and eef versions), vignetting, instrument map, and sxsbranch-related files are the same that were used for pre-launch Hitomi (Astro-H) SXS files. These are decscribed below ("Legacy Astro-H files"). instmap/ah_sxs_instmap_20131001v004.fits psf/eef_from_sxs_psfimage_20140618.fits psf/sxs_psfimage_20140618.fits vignette/SXT_VIG_140618.txt sxsbranch/pixfrac.txt sxsbranch/pixmap.fits sxsbranch/pixmask.txt ############################################################################### Xtend These are Hitomi (Astro-H) pre-launch files, and may be used for Xtend spect simulations. The SXI response, arf, and internal background files for *spectral* simulations are xrism/xtend/response/ah_sxi_20120702.rmf xrism/xtend/response/sxt-i_140505_ts02um_int01.8r.arf xrism/xtend/background/ah_sxi_pch_nxb_full_20110530.pi xrism/xtend/background/ah_sxi_pch_nxb_r1p80_20110530.pi where 'r1p80' and 'full' designate NXB spectra for a 1.8 arcminute radius circular extraction region, and for the full FoV. The latter must be used for heasim simulations. Since this arf is constructed to yield the count rate into a 1.8 arcminute aperture for a point source, the effective area scaled-up by the eef fraction beyond 1.8 arcmin must be used for heasim simulations xrism/xtend/response/sxt-i_140505_ts02um_int01.8r_intall_140618psf.arf The corresponding SXI psf file xrism/xtend/psf/eef_from_sxi_psfimage_20140618.fits is derived from azimuthal averging of the on-axis 4.5 keV PSF image. The vignetting functon xrism/xtend/vignette/SXT_VIG_140618.txt is the same as that descrbed above for Resolve. The SXI instrument map is in xrism/xtend/instmap. ############################################################################### Legacy Astro-H files The vignetting function represented by SXT_VIG_140618.txt is derived from a 2014-05-18 Astro-H Science Working Group memo from T. Okajima. The sxt-s heasim-format PSF fits image file (incorporating the PSF azimuthal asymmetries) sxs_psfimage_20140618.fits is derived from on-axis 1.5, 4.5, and 8 keV, and off-axis 1.5 keV, PSF images (heasim selects the best-match PSF based on the energy and position of each photon); eef_from_sxs_psfimage_20140618.fits is the the EEF derived from these PSFs. These extend to ~ 9 arcminutes (heasim does not scatter photons by more than the maximum radius represented in the EEF/PSF file). The sxt-i heasim-format EEF fits file eef_from_sxi_psfimage_20140618.fits is derived from the on-axis 4.5 keV PSF image, and extends to ~ 6 arcminutes. The following support files for sxsbranch (also included in the standard HEASoft distribution) are included in the directory simfiles/xrism/resolve/sxsbranch: pixmap.fits -- the CALDB file used by sxsbranch to define pixels that are in electrical proximity, pixfrac.txt -- the file that defines the fractional distribution of counts in each pixel in the SXS array calculated from a heasim simulation of a point source with a power law spectrum, and pixmask.txt -- a file that may be used to exclude the outer 20 pixels from consideration in both the estimated and calculated branching ratios for either real or simulated event files. ############################################################################### Source Definition File and User Spectrum Examples The simfiles/testdata/source_data directory includes the following examples of point source definition files: (a) source definition files The file heasim_source_header.txt contains header documentation for these files: an explanation of the format, required and optional parameters, along with some of the examples below. absbbod_test.txt: a single point-source with a 0.5 keV blackbody spectrum absorbed by a column density of 1e22 absplaw_test: a single pulsed point-source with a slope 1.4 power-law spectrum absorbed by a column density of 1e22 bbod_test.txt: a single point-source with a 0.5 keV blackbody spectrum mlines_test.txt: a single point-source with multiple lines covering 0.25-10 keV plaw_test.txt: a single pulsed point-source with a slope 1.4 power-law spectrum absbrem_test.txt: a single point-source with a 5 keV brems spectrum absorbed by a column density of 1e22 absrs_test.txt: a single point-source with a 1 keV Raymond-Smith spectrum absorbed by a column density of 1e22 brem_test.txt: a single point-source with a 5 keV brems spectrum image_plaw_test.txt mono_test.txt:: a single point-source with a 1 keV emission line spectrum rs_test.txt: a single point-source with a 1 keV Raymond-Smith spectrum point_input.dat: single point-source with a 0.5 keV blackbody spectrum point_pulsed_input.dat: a single pulsed point-source with a power-law spectrum point_userspec_input.dat: a single point-source with a user-supplied input spectrum point_multi_input.dat: multiple point sources with different spectra beta_input.dat: a 1’-core elliptical (axial ratio of 0.5) beta-model distribution w/ rotation angle and uniform spectrum given by a user-supplied input spectrum in "SHERPA" format beta_input.dat: 1'-core radius elliptical (axial ratio of 0.5) beta-model distribution w/ rotation angle and uniform spectrum given by a user-supplied input spectrum in “SHERPA” format vbeta_input.dat: a 1’-core elliptical beta-model distribution with a temperature profile flat_input.dat: a flat distribution ranging from 0-20' with a user-supplied input spectrum in "XSPEC" format image_input.dat: an image with a 5 keV brems spectrum subimage_input.dat: a subimage with a 1.5 keV monoenergetic spectrum ellip_input.dat: an elliptical ring (axial ratio of 0.5) w/ rotation angle and spectrum given by a user-supplied input spectrum in “SHERPA” format power_input.dat: a power-law spatial distribution with a Raymond-Smith spectrum gauss_input.dat: a gaussian distribution with a user-supplied input spectrum in "XSPEC" format (b) user spectrum files User input spectrum files spanning the energy scales of the instrument indicated (hxi, sxi, sxs) are provided as follows.
