Dos and Don'ts of FTOOLS Development

In order to increase the portability of the FTOOLS software package anyone developing software with the intent of having it distributed within FTOOLS should follow several guidelines. These guidelines will ease the task of supporting an FTOOL under the various environments such as VMS, UNIX and IRAF and on the newer 64 bit computer architectures that are becoming available.
