ASCA weekly

Dear ASCA users,

Today (May 8), we successfully finished most critical operation of ASCA ACS
reconfiguration, i.e., transfer to safe hold mode, replacement of Skew-2 gyro
to Z-gyro, stabilizing satellite, finding current attitude (R.A.=177, Dec=69)
andreturn to normal pointing mode with STT control. After Z-gyro function test
on May 9, we will perform a test maneuver using an observation target.
RXJ 0658-5557 is selected as a target position for the test maneuver, since the
angular distance from current position is moderate to perform maneuver test
and sun angle of the target is best (just 90 degree from the sun). If every
procedures progress as expected, we should get data for RXJ 0658-5557 and we
return to a regular observation mode on May 11. Yet taking some emergent cases
into account, we will perform maneuvers on May 10 and 11 during the contact
passes of ASCA at KSC. Afer finishing all the procedures of gyro replacement
we will follow observations with the revised short-term schedule as follow.

F. Nagase
