ASCA weekly

Dear ASCA users,

A proposal of a TOO observation and a post-deadline proposal are submitted
for the observation of a supernova remnant newly discovered in the Vela SNR
(cf. Aschenbach, Nature 396,141). We discussed these proposals at the merging
meeting, although we have no mechanism to accept post-deadline proposal and
this is somehow unusual TOO since the source intensity do not change.
However, it was recommended by the Merging Committee members to perform this
as a TOO observation during AO6, taking the scientific importance of this event
and the probable ASCA re-entry to the atmosphere in the early 2000 into account.
According to the recommendation, I have allocated the TOO observation in the
last short-term schedule on December 21, assigning H. Tsunemi to be PPI and
P. Slane to be CoPI. All CoIs in Tsunemi's proposal and Slane's proposal are
included as CoIs of this project and a few members will be added from ASCA
operation team. By this event, the priority-C targets, SCGG 205 (JPN, PI; H. Xu)
and 1246-0547 (ESJ, PI; T. Miyaji) are dropped out from the schedule of the AO6
observation.
