1) GRB physics before Swift: First announcement

Dear Colleague,

We are pleased to invite you to participate in:

	Gamma-Ray Burst Physics before Swift

a conference to be held at Penn State University,
State College, Pennsylvania, on
April 9-10th 2004.

http://www.tomabel.com/GRB.

* Overview:

With the upcoming Swift launch later this year it is timely to
summarize the current state of knowledge on Gamma Ray Bursts. This
meeting gathers theorists and observers alike to make their
predictions of what SWIFT should see. It also honors the 60th birthday
of Peter Meszaros and his many and varied contributions to high energy
astrophysics.

Talks are by invitation only. However, anyone in the field is
welcome to participate. Ample poster space will be available as well
as lots of discussion time for participants to advertise their work.

* Scientific Advisory Committee:
Martin Rees, Stan Woosley, Bodhan Paczynski,
John Bahcall, Ralph Wijers, Chryssa Kouveliotou

* Local Organizing Committee:
Tom Abel, Christine Selders (Administrative Assistant)

2) NRAO Synthesis Imaging Summer School

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Socorro, New Mexico is holding a
Synthesis Imaging Summer School 15-22 June 2004. This school is an ideal
opportunity to learn more about interferometry and synthesis imaging in radio
astronomy. We would like to announce that NRAO has limited funds to help
researchers attend the summer school. This opportunity is not limited to US
citizens or US institutions. These funds are targeted for (although not
limited to) researchers whose primary experience is in x-ray astronomy and who
are interested in learning about radio astronomy.

To request funds, please send a short note before March 20 to
xraydio@nrao.edu which briefly outlines your astronomy interests (1-2
sentences) and what funding you have and what funding you require in order
to attend the Summer School.

PLEASE NOTE: Attendance is limited to 150 and more than 50 people have
already registered. After reaching the limit there will be a wait list,
but we recommend you respond ASAP in order to ensure a place.

More information on the Summer School is at:
