XMM-Newton Live Radiation Monitor Page
======================================

Users curious to monitor the radiation conditions during science
observations may be interested in the new information page provided on
the SOC portal at

http://xmm.vilspa.esa.es/external/xmm_obs_info/radmon/index.php

Plots are presented, updated in quasi real time, and showing the
radiation levels reported by the spacecraft radiation monitor on a range
of time scales spanning the preceding 48 hours.

Anticipated time line for next XMM-Newton Announcement of Opportunity
=====================================================================

The fourth XMM-Newton "Announcement of Opportunity" (AO4) is approaching.
Within this AO4, a new call to submit proposals for observations to be
performed with the XMM-Newton observatory will be issued. To be prepared
for this, please find below an anticipated time line.

The planned key milestones for this Announcement are:

  Announcement of Opportunity 30 August 2004
  Due date for Proposals 8 October 2004 (12:00 UT)
  Final OTAC approved programme December 2004/January 2005

The official "Announcement of Opportunity" will be made public in an
XMM-Newton News and on the XMM-Newton Science Operations Centre Home
Page.

Astro-E2 ESA Guest Investigator Programme
=========================================

Scientists belonging to institutions within ESA Member States may apply
for observing time on the Japanese/US X-ray astronomy mission Astro-E2
through the ESA Astro-E2 Guest Investigator Programme (EAO-1). The aim
of the programme is to maximize the scientific return from the mission
through co-operation between European and Japanese scientists. The
Announcement of Opportunity has opened on 2004 May 18. Proposals to
participate in the EAO-1 must be prepared in accordance with the
information available electronically from the web link below. Proposals
must be submitted to ESA by August 18, 2004 at the latest with a copy
to the relevant national funding institutions. The EAO-1 documents must
be retrieved electronically from the ESA's Astro-E2 WWW home page:

http://www.rssd.esa.int/Astro-E2

Users unable to retrieve the Astro-E2 documentation, or with other
problems, are requested to contact:

AstroE2-help@rssd.esa.int.

Yours sincerely,
XMM-Newton SOC
