1) AO-4 Budget Release
ESA has made the final selection of the AO-4 proposal and target
list and notified proposers of their selected/rejected status. As
usual, congratulations to those with successful projects. The
competition for XMM-Newton time was very keen and many good proposals
were rejected solely because there was insufficient time to allocate.
We expect to release the XMM-Newton AO-4 Phase 2 Call for Budget
Proposals later this week with a due date of 28 January 2005. The
budget proposal process will again be open to US PIs and US Co-Is
of foreign PI proposals. Thanks to the 2004 Senior Review results,
additional funds will be allocated to budgets for US Co-Is of
Foreign PI proposals. Details will also be similar to those of
previous AOs, and will be released with the Call.
All successful US GOs, PIs and Co-Is, will receive an e-mail with
the AO-4 Budget Dear Colleague letter. In addition, US PIs will
receive an e-mail with a "fair-share" estimate as a guide for a
reasonable budget request. US Co-Is of Foreign PI proposals will
again need to designate a Lead Co-I who will be responsible for
the Budget, and for requesting a fair-share estimate from the GOF
(xmmhelp@athena.gsfc.nasa.gov). If you do not receive an e-mail
in the next few days and believe that you should, please contact
the GOF (also at xmmhelp@athena.gsfc.nasa.gov).

2) Grant Recipient Reporting
This is another reminder that holders of NASA XMM-Newton GO grants
must submit a final report after completion of the grant period. A
standard form/cover page can be found at:
http://xmm.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/xmm/docs/grant-report.html
Note that if the proposed work was not feasible, for example if soft
proton flaring made the data unusable, that should be explained.

3) Browse Table Merger
The Browse XMMPUBLIC and XMMMASTER tables available through the
HEASARC (http://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/db-perl/W3Browse/w3browse.pl)
are now combined into a single table, renamed XMMMASTER

4) SAS Version 6.1.0
SAS Version 6.1.0 is the latest public release (November 24th, 2004).
This version is available for Red Hat, SuSE, Solaris, OSF1 and Darwin.
The Mac version has been rigorously tested and gives satisfactory
results compared to other platforms. This latest release (on all
platforms) can be downloaded from:

5) Happy Holidays from the NASA/GSFC XMM-Newton GOF.
