XMM-Newton Users Handbook update for AO-14
==========================================

The XMM-Newton Users Handbook (UHB) has been updated to version 2.12
in preparation for the next Announcement of Opportunity (AO-14) which
will open shortly.

The UHB contains information on the instrumentation on board
XMM-Newton and serves as the main technical support document for
proposal preparation, based on which potential XMM-Newton users can
assess the technical feasibility of their planned observations.

The XMM-Newton Users Handbook is available on-line at

http://xmm.esac.esa.int/external/xmm_user_support/documentation/uhb

Alternatively, pdf and postscript versions of the UHB can be
downloaded from the "XMM-Newton Proposer's Info and Manuals" portal at

http://xmm.esac.esa.int/external/xmm_user_support/documentation

Documentation updated:
EPIC and RGS Calibration Status and XMM-Newton Background documents
===================================================================

New versions of the following documents have been released:

- EPIC Calibration Status
- RGS Calibration Status

available from the XMM-Newton Calibration Portal at

http://xmm2.esac.esa.int/external/xmm_sw_cal/calib/

- The Behaviour of the XMM-Newton Background

available from the XMM-Newton Background Analysis page at

XMM-Newton Conference "The X-ray Universe 2014":
Presentations and Posters available on-line
================================================

The XMM-Newton conference "The X-ray Universe 2014" was successfully
held in Dublin from 16th to 19th June 2014, with 339 registered
participants.

The conference web page

http://xmm.esac.esa.int/external/xmm_science/workshops/2014symposium/

is updated accordingly and provides, among other information, access
to online presentations and posters.

Abstracts are also available via ADS at

XMM-Newton Science Workshop 2015: "The Extremes of Black Hole Accretion"
========================================================================

The XMM-Newton Science Operations Centre is organising a workshop in
the spring of next year:

              "The Extremes of Black Hole Accretion"

                        8th - 10th June 2015

          XMM-Newton Science Operations Centre at ESA's
          European Space Astronomy Centre, Madrid, Spain
