Anticipated timeline for next XMM-Newton Announcement of Opportunity: AO-16
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The planned key milestones  for the sixteenth XMM-Newton "Announcement
of Opportunity" have been established. Within this AO-16 a new call to
submit proposals for observations  to be performed with the XMM-Newton
observatory will be issued.

To be prepared for this, please find below the anticipated timeline:

Announcement of Opportunity .............. Tuesday 23 August 2016
Due date for Proposals ................... Friday 7 October 2016 (12:00 UT)
Final OTAC approved programme ............ mid December 2016

For approved proposals only:

Start of phase II proposal submission .... Tuesday 10 January 2017
Closure of phase II proposal submission .. Friday 3 February 2017
Start of AO-16 observations .............. May 2017

The official "Announcement of Opportunity"  will be made public in the
XMM-Newton News  and on the XMM-Newton Science  Operations Centre Home
Page.



Conference Announcement: "The first science conference on the XIPE mission"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The  first   science  conference   dedicated  to  the   X-ray Imaging
Polarimetry  Explorer  (XIPE)  will  be  held on  May  24-26 2016  in
Valencia, Spain.

XIPE is  a candidate  for ESA  M4 mission, and  it is  currently under
phase A study. This mission would open the new observational window of
X-ray polarimetry  and combines scientific  objectives in astrophysics
and fundamental physics.  XIPE is going to put new constraints on open
questions  about  strong gravity,  quantum  electrodynamics in strong
magnetic fields or dark matter candidates.

Registration and abstract submission for contributed talks and posters
will be open in January 2016.
