George Gliba attended Cuyahoga Community College and Lakeland Community College from Spring 1977 to Fall 1979, majoring in Earth Science and Biology. A Viet Nam-era veteran, George served in the USAF as a Aerospace Control and Warning Operator from 1969 to 1973.

George has a strong background in observational astronomy, making hundreds of variable star observations for the AAVSO since 1967, and has logged over 200 hours of meteor observations for the AMS and ALPO Meteors Section since 1963. He has built several telescopes, and has been very active with public outreach, founding the Chagrin Valley Astronomical Society of Ohio in 1963, and the Greenbelt Astronomy Club, Greenbelt Maryland, in 1992.

Employed as a contractor at the NASA/GSFC since 1979, George has worked on IUE, Landsat 4 and 5, HST, CGRO, and XMM as a data technican, computer operator, and technical specialist. He has been involved with HEASARC E/PO since 1998.
