Outputs

The output of the TRANSMAP program consists of the FITS maps in the new coordinate system and of the program report file.

• Output FITS files: the output files are completely similar to the input files except for a few items. First, the CTYPE variables are changed to GTLON/GTLAT or CTRA/CTDEC to indicate the nature of both the original system and of the new coordinate system . The map reference point differs from the original map. The number of bins and the bin size on the first and second axis may also differ. The BSCALE factor will be different for the exposure and intensity maps as will the map size and file name. The map type of the new maps is 'TRANS_MAP'.

  In addition to the different values for the header keywords, a number of new keywords will also be added. They are, EXTEND to indicate that there an extension at the end of the file containing the transformation matrix in an ASCII table. The name of the input file is indicated by another HISTORY IN-FILE keyword. TRPOINT1 and TRPOINT2 are added to record the reference point coordinates in the old system. TRPTDIR1 and TRPTDIR2 show the pointing direction in the new system

• Terminal report: a report of the program execution is generated during the run and is found in file transmap.list under the current directory. The user should check that file after execution. The user input, and echo of the counts input file header, error messages and statistics for the run will be listed there. The report should be self-explanatory.
