NICER Hosts a Proposal & Science Workshop

NICER held its 2nd public workshop this week. The event highlights the breadth of science that NICER enables, with the goal of further extending the community of scientists who propose for telescope time and data through NICER's Guest Observer (GO) program. In an open, peer-reviewed competition, the GO program offers a total of 8 million seconds of exposure time annually for users to execute a variety of science investigations. The workshop educates the science community about NICER's capabilities, with presentations on the mechanics of NICER proposals, observations, calibration, and data analysis. It also provides use-case examples with talks by 20 invited scientists who have used NICER for studies of everything from comets to the edges of black holes. The workshop program is available from the NICER website. Over 320 participants registered for the virtual meeting.
