Is there any sign of rate-dependent gain variations?

Unfortunately, yes. A recent (September 1992) observation of the Crab shows a shift to lower energies with a 5 percent lower gain in the processing relative to a fudged response matrix (see latest update to question 6 above). It appears to affect bright, hard targets.
