The constellation Sagittarius provides a beautiful starfield showing nebulae, stellar associations, absorption by molecular clouds and many discrete X-ray sources. The brightest sources are most likely neutron stars or black holes, the diffuse emission originates in hot gas clouds heated by supernova explosions.
