Overview

The catalog of 4195 optically confirmed Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) selected galaxy clusters were detected with signal-to-noise > 4 in 13,211 deg2 of sky surveyed by the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT). Cluster candidates were selected by applying a multi-frequency matched filter to 98- and 150-GHz maps constructed from ACT observations obtained from 2008-2018 and confirmed using deep, wide-area optical surveys. The clusters span the redshift range 0.04 < z < 1.91 (median z = 0.52). The catalog contains 222 z > 1 clusters, and a total of 868 systems are new discoveries. Assuming an SZ-signal vs. mass scaling relation calibrated from X-ray observations, the sample has a 90% completeness mass limit of M500c > 3.8 x 1014Msol, evaluated at z=0.5, for clusters detected at signal-to-noise ratio > 5 in maps filtered at an angular scale of 2.40. The survey has a large overlap with deep optical weak-lensing surveys that are being used to calibrate the SZ-signal mass-scaling relation, such as the Dark Energy Survey (4566 deg2), the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (469 deg2), and the Kilo Degree Survey (825 deg2).

Provenance

This HEASARC database table was ingested in February 2021. It contains the ACT DR5 SZ cluster catalog obtained from the LAMDBA website (https://lambda.gsfc.nasa.gov/product/act/actpol_dr5_szcluster_catalog_info.cfm#catalog).

Parameters

Name
The source designation in the format ACT-CL JHHMM.m+/-DDMM of the SZ detection by ACT.

RA
The Right Ascension for the source in the selected equinox. This was given in the J2000 coordinates in the original table.

Dec
The Declination for the source in the selected equinox. This was given in the J2000 coordinates in the original table.

LII
The Galactic Longitude corresponding to the source position.

BII
The Galactic Latitude corresponding to the source position.

SNR
The signal-to-noise ratio for the source, optimized over all the filter scales.

Y_C
The central Comptonization parameter measured using the optimal matched filter template (i.e., the one that maximizes the SNR).

Y_C_Error
The uncertainty in the central Comptonization parameter measured using the optimal matched filter template (i.e., the one that maximizes the SNR, given by the matched_template parameter).

SNR_Fixed
The signal-to-noise ratio at the reference 2.4-arcmin filter scale.

Y_C_Fixed
The central Comptonization parameter measured using the reference 2.4-arcmin filter template.

Y_C_Fixed_Error
The uncertainty in the central Comptonization parameter measured using the reference 2.4-arcmin filter template.

Matched_Template
The name of the matched filter template that resulted in the highest SNR detection of this source.

ACT_Tile_Name
The name of the ACT map tile in which the cluster source was found. The ACT map tiles typically have dimensions of 10 deg x 5 deg.

Redshift
The adopted redshift of the cluster source.

Redshift_Error
The uncertainty in the adopted redshift of the cluster source, which is given only for photometric redshifts.

Redshift_Type
The redshift method used to determine the redshifts, where 'spec' means spectroscopic and 'phot' means photometric.

Ref_Redshift
The reference source of the adopted redshift, as described in Table 2 of the reference paper.

Mass_500c
The cluster mass that encloses an average density equal to 500 times the critical density at the cluster redshift, in units of 1014 solar masses, and estimated assuming the Universal Pressure Profile (UPP; Arnaud et al, 2010) scaling relation to convert the SZ signal to mass.

Mass_500c_Pos_Err
The 1-sigma upper uncertainty in the cluster mass that encloses an average density equal to 500 times the critical density at the cluster redshift, in units of 1014 solar masses, and estimated assuming the Universal Pressure Profile (UPP; Arnaud et al, 2010) scaling relation to convert the SZ signal to mass.

Mass_500c_Neg_Err

Zcluster_Source
The photometry used for the zCluster algorithm measurements (see Section 3.1.4 in the reference paper): DECaLS (DR8), KiDS (DR4), SDSS (DR12).

RM_SDSS_Flag
This flag (either 'T' for true or 'F' for false) indicates a cross-match with a redMaPPer-detected cluster in the SDSS footprint (see Rykoff et al. 2014).

RM_SDSS_Lambda
The optical richness measurement for the redMaPPer algorithm in the SDSS footprint.

RM_SDSS_Lambda_Error

The reference code that indicates the source of the alternative optically-determined cluster position. One of: AMICO (Maturi et al. 2019), CAMIRA (Oguri et al. 2018), RM (redMaPPer in SDSS footprint; Rykoff et al. 2014), RMDESY3 (redMaPPer in DES Y3 footprint; Rykoff et al. 2016), RMDESY3ACT (redMaPPer in DES Y3 footprint using ACT position as a prior; Rykoff et al. 2016), Vis-BCG (BCG position from visual inspection of available optical/IR imaging; this work), WHL2015 (position from Wen & Han 2015).
