SDSSCVCAT - Sloan Digital Sky Survey I/II Cataclysmic Variables Catalog

HEASARC
Archive

Overview

The reference paper completed the series of cataclysmic variables (CVs) identified from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) I and II. The coordinates, magnitudes, and SDSS spectra of 33 more CVs were presented. Among the 33 are eight systems known prior to SDSS (CT Ser, DO Leo, HK Leo, IR Com, V849 Her, V405 Peg, PG1230+226, and HS0943+1404), as well as nine objects recently found through various photometric surveys. Among the systems identified since the SDSS are two polar candidates, two intermediate polar candidates, and one candidate for containing a pulsating white dwarf. A complete summary table of the 285 CVs with spectra from SDSS I/II which were listed in the reference paper and the 7 previous papers in the series is contained herein.

Provenance

This table was created by the HEASARC in January 2012 based on an electronic version of Table 6 from the reference paper which was obtained from the AJ web site.

HEASARC Implemetation

The HEASARC has nullified the magnitudes and associated errors for the CV SDSS J075117.32+144423.9 since the first author has confirmed that the values for this CV in the original table were erroneous. The magnitude values given in Paper V (Szkody et al. 2006, AJ, 131, 973) for the SDSS magnitudes of this CV were 14.12, 14.18, 14.00, 13.95 and 13.98 for u, g, r, i and z, respectively.

Parameters

Name
The SDDD DR8 (Data Release 8) object designation for the CV in the standard J2000.0 position-based scheme, e.g., 'SDSS JHHMMSS.ss+DDMMSS.s', based on the truncated coordinates and the discovery publication astrometry.

RA
The Right Ascension of the CV in the selected equinox. This was given in J2000.0 decimal degrees to a precision of 10-6 degrees in the original table.

Dec
The Declination of the CV in the selected equinox. This was given in J2000.0 decimal degrees to a precision of 10-6 degrees in the original table.

LII
The Galactic Longitude of the CV.

BII
The Galactic Latitude of the CV.

Umag
The SDSS u-band PSF magnitude of the CV. The SDSS photometric measurements are asinh magnitudes (Lupton, Gunn, and Szalay 1999, AJ, 118, 1406) and are normalized (to ~3% accuracy) to the AB-magnitude system (Oke and Gunn 1983, ApJ, 266, 713). The ugriz magnitudes are not corrected for Galactic absorption.

Umag_Error
The error in the SDSS u-band PSF magnitude of the CV.

Gmag
The SDSS g-band PSF Magnitude of the CV.

Gmag_Error
The error in the SDSS g-band PSF magnitude of the CV.

Rmag
The SDSS r-band PSF Magnitude of the CV.

Rmag_Error
The error in the SDSS r-band PSF magnitude of the CV.

Imag
The SDSS i-band PSF Magnitude of the CV.

Imag_Error
The error in the SDSS i-band PSF magnitude of the CV.

Zmag
The SDSS z-band PSF Magnitude of the CV.

Zmag_Error
The error in the SDSS z-band PSF magnitude of the CV.

Spect_Date
The date of the SDSS spectroscopic observation.

Spect_Plate_Number
The SDSS plate number of the spectroscopic observation.

Spect_Fiber_Number
The fiber number of the spectroscopic observation.

Phot_Date
The date of the SDSS photometric observation.

Spect_Tar_Sel_Flag
The SDSS spectroscopic target selection flags for the CV (detailed in Stoughton et al. 2002, AJ, 123, 485).

Period
The orbital period of the CV, in hours, if known (a null value implies that the period is unknown).

Ref_Source
This parameter flags the original reference source, coded as follows:
