Overview

This is the XMM-Newton Observation Log created from information supplied by the XMM-Newton Project. It contains a list of observations made by XMM-Newton and is periodically updated.

Provenance

This database table was created/updated by the HEASARC based on a Web page supplied by the XMM-Newton Project at the URL https://xmm-tools.cosmos.esa.int/external/xmm_mission_plan/odf_pps/catstrip.shtml. It is periodically updated within a few days of whenever the XMM-Newton Project's web page is modified.

Parameters

ObsID
A unique XMM-Newton observation identifier made up of the proposal number, target number of the proposal, and exposure number of the target.

PNo
The XMM-Newton proposal number to which the observation belongs. Note that the proposal number is the first six digits of the ObsID number.

Name
The name of the target of the XMM-Newton pointing.

RA
The nominal right ascension of the XMM-Newton pointing, in the requested equinox. Notice that the originating table contained the position in equinox J2000 with RA given to a precision of 0.01 seconds of time.

Dec
The nominal declination of the XMM-Newton pointing, in the requested equinox. Notice that the originating table contained the position in equinox J2000 with declination given to a precision of 0.1 arcseconds.

LII
The galactic longitude of the XMM-Newton pointing.

BII
The galactic latitude of the XMM-Newton pointing.

Time
The start time of the observation in UTC. Notice that the originating table gave the start time given to a precision of 0.01 seconds.

Scheduled_Duration
The planned duration for the observation in seconds. This is the planned on target time and includes the time required for instrument setup; which means the actual 'science' time available will be lower.

Estimated_Exposure
The estimated duration for the observation in seconds. This is derived by checking for the time spent with the filter wheel (the MOS1 camera is taken as the reference) within the time window planned for the observation.

PI_Name
The name of the principal investigator for the XMM-Newton pointing.

ODF_Date
The creation date for the Observation Data Files from the raw telemetry data. If no date is listed, then this initial processing has not taken place.

Distribution_Date
A specified date indicates whether the final CD with the pipeline products and the ODF have been shipped, and if so when.

Public_Date
A specified date indicates when the data products will become available to the public. This date is only approximate and subject to change.

XMM_Revolution
The XMM-Newton revolution number in which the observation occurred, i.e., the number of 48-hour orbits which had elapsed since the launch of XMM-Newton.

Process_Status
Pipeline Processing Status
