XMMLSS - XMM-Newton Large-Scale Structure X-Ray Source Catalog

HEASARC

Overview

The XMM-Newton Large-Scale Structure (XMM-LSS) X-Ray Source Catalog contains the source list for the first 5.5 surveyed square degrees of the XMM-LSS, with a total of 3385 point-like or extended sources above a detection likelihood of 15 in either 0.5 - 2 keV or 2 - 10 keV bands. The agreement with deep log N- log S is excellent. The main parameters considered are position, count rate, source extent with associated likelihood values. A set of additional quantities such as astrometric corrections and fluxes are further calculated while errors on the position and count rate are deduced from simulations. This table contains the main parameters, while further parameters and data products (X-ray images and optical thumbnails) are available at the Milan XMM-LSS database site: http://cosmos.iasf-milano.inaf.it/~lssadmin/Website/LSS/Query

Provenance

This table was created by the HEASARC in February 2008 based on the CDS Catalog J/MNRAS/382/279 file xlss.dat.

Parameters

Source_Number
A unique internal sequence number for each merged X-ray source in the XMM-LSS Catalog wherein it is called Xseq.

Alt_Name
An alternative X-ray source designation using the XLSS prefix together with the source number, e.g., 'XLSS nnnnn', as recommended by the CDS Dictionary of Nomenclature of Celestial Objects.

Name
The preferred catalog X-ray source designation ('XLSS JHHMMSS.s+DDMMSSa') using the XLSS prefix, the J2000.0 position of the X-ray source, and an a/b suffix. The letter suffix is used when the band merging is ambiguous and one 0.5-2keV band source may have two different hard band counterparts, or vice versa.

RA
The astrometrically corrected Right Ascension of the X-ray source in the selected equinox. This was given in J2000.0 coordinates to a precision of 0.1 seconds of time in the original table. The X-ray positions were obtained using XAMIN, a maximum-likelihood profile-fitting procedure, using either pnt, a point source PSF, or ext, an extended source model assuming a beta-profile with a constant slope of 2/3, according to the classification of the source (the extended_source_class parameter).

Dec
The astrometrically corrected Declination of the X-ray source in the selected equinox. This was given in J2000.0 coordinates to a precision of 0.1 arcseconds in the original table.

LII
The Galactic Longitude of the X-ray source

BII
The Galactic Latitude of the X-ray source.

SB_Source_Number
A unique internal sequence number for each soft-band (0.5 - 2.0 keV) X-ray source in the XMM-LSS Catalog wherein it is called Bseq. If a source is not detected in this band, this field is left blank.

SB_Name
The recommended name for the soft-band X-ray source, using the format recommended by the CDS Dictionary of Nomenclature of Celestial Objects for J2000.0 positional-based names, viz., `XLSSB JHHMMSS.s+DDMMSS'.

Extended_Source_Class
The soft-band (0.5 - 2.0 keV) source extension classification flag. This so-called C1/C2 classification flag (discussed in more detail in Section 2.3.4 of the reference paper) is set for candidate clusters according to Pacaud et al. (2006MNRAS.372..578P) and assumes the following values:

       1 = object classified as C1 cluster candidate in the 0.5 - 2 keV band
       2 = object classified as C2 cluster candidate in the 0.5 - 2 keV band
       0 = undefined in any other case

SB_Core_Radius
The core radius of the beta-model derived from ext for sources which are extended in the soft-band, in arcseconds.

SB_Extent_Likelihood
The extension likelihood EXT_LH of the X-ray source in the soft band. This is set to undefined for point-like sources.

SB_Detect_Likelihood
The detection likelihood DET_LH of the X-ray source in the soft band.

SB_Off_Axis
The off-axis angle of the soft-band X-ray source from the nominal field pointing, in arcminutes.

SB_RA_J2000
The Right Ascension (J2000) of the 0.5 - 2 keV source.

SB_Dec_J2000
The Declination (J2000) of the 0.5 - 2 keV source.

SB_Error_Radius
The positional error of the X-ray source in the 0.5 - 2 keV band, in arcseconds, computed from the count rate and off-axis angle according to prescriptions given in the reference paper. For extended sources it is set to 0.0.

MOS_SB_Rate
The 0.5 - 2 keV MOS count rate of the X-ray source, in ct/s.

PN_SB_Rate
The 0.5 - 2 keV PN count rate of the X-ray source, in ct/s.

SB_Flux
The 0.5 - 2 keV flux of the X-ray source, in erg/s/cm2. The flux is set to undefined for all C1 clusters.

SB_Flux_Flag
This flag parameter indicates how the soft-band fluxes computed from the MOS or pn count rates alone differ from the mean flux, with the following coding:

       0 = difference < 20%
       1 = difference between 20 and 50%
       2 = difference > 50%

HB_Source_Number
A unique internal sequence number for each hard-band (2.0 - 10.0 keV) X-ray source in the XMM-LSS Catalog wherein it is called CDseq. If a source is not detected in this band, this field is left blank.

HB_Name
The recommended name for the hard-band X-ray source, using the format recommended by the CDS Dictionary of Nomenclature of Celestial Objects for J2000.0 positional-based names, viz., `XLSSCD JHHMMSS.s+DDMMSS'.

HB_Core_Radius
The core radius of the beta-model derived from ext for sources which are extended in the hard band, in arcseconds. This parameter is set to undefined when the extended source fit fails in the hard band.

HB_Extent_Likelihood
The extension likelihood EXT_LH of the X-ray source in the hard band. This is set to undefined for point-like sources.

HB_Detect_Likelihood
The detection likelihood DET_LH of the X-ray source in the hard band.

HB_Off_Axis
The off-axis angle of the hard-band X-ray source from the nominal field pointing, in arcminutes.

HB_RA_J2000
The Right Ascension (J2000) of the 2 - 10 keV source.

HB_Dec_J2000
The Declination (J2000) of the 2 - 10 keV source.

HB_Error_Radius
The positional error of the X-ray source in the 2 - 10 keV band, in arcseconds, computed from the count rate and off-axis angle according to prescriptions given in the reference paper. For extended sources it is set to 0.0.

MOS_HB_Rate
The 2 - 10 keV MOS count rate, in ct/s.

PN_HB_Rate
The 2 - 10 keV PN count rate, in ct/s.

HB_Flux
The 2 - 10 keV flux of the X-ray source, in erg/s/cm2. The flux is set to undefined for all C1 clusters.

HB_Flux_Flag
This flag parameter indicates how the hard-band fluxes computed from the MOS or pn count rates alone differ from the mean flux, with the following coding:

       0 = difference < 20%
       1 = difference between 20 and 50%
       2 = difference > 50%
