ASCAMASTER - ASCA Master Catalog

HEASARC
Archive

Overview

The ASCAMASTER table contains data on all ASCA observations that were ever in any of the following states: 'Accepted', 'Scheduled Long-Term', 'Scheduled Short-Term', 'Processed', and 'Archived'. The final status of an observation is given by the parameter Status. Specific dates that affect the status of an observation are listed as the parameters scheduled_date, observed_date, processed_date, archived_date, and cycle.

Notice that, if one or more of the date parameters are empty for a given observation, this means that that those particular processes have not occurred: e.g., if observed_date is empty, this means that the planned observation was not observed.

Parameters

Sequence_Number
The sequence number of the observation.

PI_LName
The last name of the Principal Investigator.

PI_FName
The first name of the Principal Investigator.

PI_No
Principal Investigator number.

Prnb
The ASCA proposal number corresponding to this target.

Cycle
The AO number in which this target was accepted, or 0 for PV (performance verification) phase target.

Subject_Category
The subject category of this target as specified by the PI:

       STARS
       CATACLYSMIC VARIABLES
       X-RAY BINARIES
SUPERNOVA REMNANTS AND GALACTIC DIFFUSE EMISSION
       NORMAL GALAXIES
       ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI
       CLUSTERS OF GALAXIES AND SUPERCLUSTERS
COSMIC XR-RAY BACKGROUND, DEEP SURVEYS, AND OTHERS

Target_Name
The name of the target.

Tar_No
The number of this target in the original proposal.

RA
The Right Ascension of the target.

Dec
The Declination of the target.

Time_Awarded
Time awarded for observation in ksec.

Priority
Priority, where 1 means highest and 3 means lowest; targets accepted at priority 3 are not guranteed to be observed.

Time
The start time of an observation. If an observation has been scheduled but not observed, this parameter contains the scheduled time for an observation. Once an observation has been observed, this parameter contains the actual observed time.

Duration
The total elapsed time (end time minus start time) of completed observations, including Earth blocks and SAA passages, in seconds.

Status
Status of an observation indicated by : 'Accepted', 'Scheduled (long term)', 'Scheduled (short term)', 'Processed', 'Archived'.

Scheduled_Date
The date on which the observation is scheduled to occur.

Observed_Date
Once an observation has been 'observed', Observed_date contains the date on which the observation was made.

Processed_Date
The date that the data for this observation were processed by the ASCA Data Facility.

Dist_Date
The date observation was first distributed, in seconds since 1980, to the primary PIs. NOTE: The distribution dates may not be completely accurate since they are sent to us from Japan.

Public_Date
The date that the data for this observation were made public. The following are the rules that govern how long ASCA data is proprietary (i.e., available only to the original proposal team) before it becomes public:

The following proprietary periods apply to the ASCA data:

       * US and joint US/Japan data will be public 1 year + 2 weeks from their
         dispatch to the PI.
       * Japanese and joint Japan/US data (with a Japanese PI) will be public
18 months + 2 weeks from their dispatch to the PI.
       * Calibration data enters the public domain as soon as they are processed.

Process_Level
Process_level The processing revision number. Numbers that :

      start with '5' are rev1
      start with '6' are rev1+
start with '7' will be rev2

Class
BROWSE classification type.

Co_PI
The last name of Co-Principal Investigator.

GIS_Exposure
The total GIS exposure time in seconds which standard processing has flagged as good.

SIS_Exposure
The total SIS exposure time in seconds which standard processing has flagged as good.

End_Time
The end time of the observation in seconds since 1980.

LII
The Galactic Longitude of the target.

BII
The Galactic Latitude of the target.
