AT20GBSS - Australia Telescope 20-GHz Survey Bright Source Sample

HEASARC
Archive

Overview

The Australia Telescope 20-GHz (AT20G) Survey is a blind survey of the whole southern sky at 20 GHz (with follow-up observations at 4.8 and 8.6 GHz) carried out with the Australia Telescope Compact Array from 2004 to 2007. The Bright Source Sample (BSS) is a complete flux-limited sub-sample of the AT20G Survey catalog comprising 320 extragalactic (|b| > 1.5 degrees) radio sources south of declination -15 degrees with 20-GHz flux densities S20GHz > 0.50 Jy (500 mJy). Of these sources, 218 have near simultaneous observations at 8 and 5 GHz.

In the reference paper, the authors present an analysis of the radio spectral properties in total intensity and polarization, size, optical identifications and redshift distribution of the BSS sources. Optical identifications provided an estimation of redshift for 186 sources with median values of 1.20 and 0.13 for QSOs and galaxies, respectively.

Provenance

This table was created by the HEASARC in August 2008 based on the CDS Catalog J/MNRAS/384/775 files table2.dat and table3.dat.

HEASARC Implementation

The HEASARC has converted all flux densities (both total and polarized) from the Jy units given in the original CDS table into the mJy units which it uses in its tables for radio-band flux densities.

Parameters

Source_Number
A unique identification number for each radio source in the catalog, in order of increasing J2000.0 Right Ascension.

Name
The name for the radio source using the '[MEM2008]' prefix (for Massardi, Ekers, Murphy 2008) and the value of the source number parameter, as recommended by the CDS Dictionary of Nomenclature of Celestial Objects, e.g., '[MEM2008] 1'.

Note_Flag
This parameter is a flag which if set to 'Y' indicates that there is a note about this source (identified by its source number) in the file http://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/ftp/cats/J_MNRAS/384/775/notes.dat.

RA
The Right Ascension of the radio source centroid in the selected equinox. The RA was given in J2000.0 coordinates to a precision of 0.01 seconds of time in the original table. The average error in RA and Dec is 0.5 arcseconds (see Section 3.4 of the reference paper).

Dec
The Declination of the radio source centroid in the selected equinox. The Dec was given in J2000.0 coordinates to a precision of 0.1 arcseconds in the original table. The average error in RA and Dec is 0.5 arcseconds (see Section 3.4 of the reference paper).

LII
The Galactic Longitude of the radio source.

BII
The Galactic Latitude of the radio source.

AT20G_Name
The name of the radio source using the 'AT20G' prefix (for Australia Telescope, 20 GHz) and the J2000 coordinates of the source in the HHMMSS.s-DDMMSS format recommended by the CDS Dictionary of Nomenclature of Celestial Objects. Notice that this differs slightly from the (non-standard) naming scheme in the reference paper where the authors suggested names in the format 'AT20G JHHMMSS-DDMMSS', i.e., with less precision in RA.

Flux_1p5_cm_Limit
This flag is set to '>' if the flux density at 20 GHz is a lower limit to the actual flux density.

The flux density of the radio source at 20 GHz, in mJy.

Flux_1p5_cm_Error
The RMS uncertainty of the corresponding flux density, in mJy.

Flux_3p5_cm
The flux density of the radio source at 8 GHz, in mJy. Whenever available, the authors give the results of 5 and 8-GHz observations almost simultaneous to the 20-GHz ones, otherwise they refer to the best observations available for the source at each frequency.

Flux_3p5_cm_Error
The RMS uncertainty of the corresponding flux density, in mJy.

Flux_6_cm
The flux density of the radio source at 5 GHz, in mJy. Whenever available, the authors give the results of 5 and 8-GHz observations almost simultaneous to the 20-GHz ones, otherwise they refer to the best observations available for the source at each frequency.
