CARINAXMM - Carina OB1 Association XMM-Newton X-Ray Point Source Catalog

Overview

This database table contains the Carina OB1 Association XMM-Newton X-Ray Point Source Catalog. The X-ray properties of the stellar population in the Carina OB1 Association have been examined with special emphasis on early-type stars. Their spectral characteristics provide some clues to understanding the nature of X-ray formation mechanisms in the winds of single and binary early-type stars. A timing and spectral analysis of five observations with XMM-Newton is performed using various statistical tests and thermal spectral models. 235 point sources have been detected within the field of view. Several of these sources are probably pre-main sequence stars with characteristic short-term variability. Seven sources are possible background AGNs. X-ray count rates in three energy bands and the X-ray variability status are given for 557 detections of the 235 point source. Cross-identifications of X-ray sources with optical and infrared catalogs are also presented.

Provenance

This table was created by the HEASARC in April 2008 based on CDS Catalog J/A+A/477/593 files table2.dat and table3.dat.

Parameters

Source_Number
A running source number in order of increasing J2000.0 Right Ascension, which uniquely identifies the X-ray source, but not the entry in the table. Since this table contains all (557) X-ray detections of 235 sources for which the total logarithmic likelihood exceeds 10.0 in 5 separate overlapping XMM-Newton observations of this region, and many sources were detected in more than one observation, the combination of source number and data set number (data_set) uniquely specifies an entry in this table.

Name
The name of the X-ray source using the '[ARV2008]' prefix (where ARV2008 refers to Antokhin, Rauw, Vreux 2008), together with the X-ray source number, as recommended by the CDS Dictionary of Nomenclature of Celestial Objects.

Var_Status
The set-to-set variability status of the X-ray source, as follows (see Section 5.2 of the reference paper for more details):

Noinfo = Not sufficient data to perform the variability test

Data_Set
The data set number, e.g., 1, or the numbers of the data sets which were combined, e.g., 3+4+5, in which the X-ray source detection was made. The full details of the 5 data sets used in this analysis are given in Table 1 of the reference paper.
