FERMILBSL - Fermi LAT Bright Source List

HEASARC
Archive

Overview

The Fermi LAT table of bright sources is a list of bright LAT sources that have statistical significances of 10 sigma or higher, based on the first three months of survey data. The primary purpose of this list is to assist proposers for Guest Investigator Cycle 2 (due date 6 March). This list will eventually be superseded by the LAT Source Catalog, to be released about one year after launch.

References

A full description of the LAT Bright Source List is given in "Fermi Large Area Telescope Bright Gamma-ray Source List" preprint by the Fermi LAT team, which is available from http://fermi.gsfc.nasa.gov/ssc/data/access/lat/bright_src_list/.

Provenance

This database table was created by the HEASARC in February 2009 based on the electronic data obtained from the Fermi Science Support Center (FSSC) available at http://fermi.gsfc.nasa.gov/ssc/data/access/lat/bright_src_list/.

Parameters

Name
The source designation, 0FGL JHHMM.m+DDMM, constructed according to the IAU Specifications for Nomenclature, in which the Right Ascension and Declination have been truncated to 0.1 decimal minutes and 1', respectively.

RA
The Right Ascension of the gamma-ray source.

Dec
The Declination of the gamma-ray source.

LII
The Galactic Longitude of the gamma-ray source.

BII
The Galactic Latitude of the gamma-ray source.

Error_Radius
The radius of the 95% confidence region, in degrees.

Sqrt_TS
The square root of the likelihood test statistic (TS) from 200 MeV - 100 GeV analysis, used for the TS > 100 cut.

Flux_0p1_1_GeV_Limit
The limit flag for the 100MeV - 1GeV photon flux. The value '<' indicates the photon flux is a 2-sigma upper limit.

Flux_0p1_1_GeV
The photon flux in the 100 MeV - 1 GeV energy range, in photons/cm2/s.

Flux_0p1_1_GeV_Error
The uncertainty in the photon flux for the 100 MeV - 1 GeV energy range, in photons/cm2/s.

Flux_1_100_GeV
The photon flux in the energy range 1 GeV - 100 GeV, in photons/cm2/s.

Flux_1_100_GeV_Error
The uncertainty in the photon flux for the 1 GeV - 100 GeV energy range, in photons/cm2/s.

Var_Flag
A boolean ('T' or 'F') flag that indicates whether or not the source is variable. 'T' indicates 1% chance of being a steady source. Refer to Section 3.5 of the paper.

Sqrt_TS_0p1_1_GeV
The square root of the test statistic (TS) for the 100 MeV - 1 GeV energy range.

Sqrt_TS_1_100_GeV
The square root of the test statistic (TS) for the 1 GeV - 100 GeV energy range.

Alt_GammaRay_Name_1
Identification or positional association with 3EG, EGR, and 1AGL counterparts.

Alt_GammaRay_Name_2
Identification or positional association with 3EG, EGR, and 1AGL counterparts.

Alt_GammaRay_Name_3
Identification or positional association with 3EG, EGR, and 1AGL counterparts.

Source_Type
Classification of the gamma-ray source, similar to 'ID' in the 3EG catalog but with more detail. Descriptions of the values used:

      PSR - pulsar
      pwn - pulsar wind nebula
hxb - high-mass X-ray binary (black hole or neutron star)
bzb - Bl Lac type of blazar
bzq - FSRQ type of blazar
bzu - uncertain type of blazar
      rdg - radio galaxy
      glb - globular cluster
x - special case, potential association with SNR or PWN (see Table 2 in paper)

Alt_Source_Type
Alternative classification of the gamma-ray source, similar to 'ID' in the 3EG catalog but with more detail. Descriptions of the values used:

      PSR - pulsar
      pwn - pulsar wind nebula
hxb - high-mass X-ray binary (black hole or neutron star)
bzb - Bl Lac type of blazar
bzq - FSRQ type of blazar
bzu - uncertain type of blazar
      rdg - radio galaxy
      glb - globular cluster
x - special case, potential association with SNR or PWN (see Table 2 in paper)

Alt_Name_1
Identification or positional association with potential counterpart.

Alt_Name_2
Identification or positional association with potential counterpart.
