RASSVARS - RASS X-Ray Variable Sources Catalog

HEASARC
Archive

Overview

The RASS X-Ray Variable Sources Catalog contains the results of a systematic search for variability among the ROSAT All-Sky Survey (RASS) X-ray sources. Lightcurves were generated for about 30,000 X-ray point sources which were detected sufficiently high above the background. For the variability study different search algorithms were developed in order to recognize flares, periods and trends, respectively. The variable X-ray sources were optically identified with counterparts in the SIMBAD, the USNO-A2.0 and NED data bases, but a significant part of the X-ray sources remain without cataloged optical counterparts. A complete list of the 1207 X-ray variable sources that were found is presented in this table.

Provenance

This table was created by the HEASARC in July 2003 based on CDS table J/A+A/403/247/table7.dat.

Parameters

Name
The sequentially numbered (in order of increasing J2000 RA) source designation, using the prefix recommended by the Dictionary of Nomenclature of Celestial Objects.

RA
The Right Ascension of the X-ray source. This was given in J2000 equatorial coordinates and to a precision of 0.01 seconds of time in the original table.

Dec
The Declination of the X-ray source. This was given in J2000 equatorial coordinates and to a precision of 0.1 arcseconds in the original table.

LII
The Galactic Longitude of the X-ray source.

BII
The Galactic Latitude of the X-ray source.

Flare_Flag
This flag is set to 1 to indicate that flare-type variability was found, else is set to 0.

Auto_Flare_Flag
This flag is set to 1 to indicate that flare-type variability was found by the automatic algorithm, else is set to 0.

Period_Flag
This flag is set to 1 to indicate that periodic variability was found, else is set to 0.

Auto_Period_Flag
This flag is set to 1 to indicate that periodic varaibility was found by the automatic algorithm, else is set to 0.

Trend_Flag
This flag is set to 1 to indicate that a long-term trend was found, else is set to 0.

Auto_Trend_Flag
This flag is set to 1 to indicate that a long-term trend was found by the automatic algorithm, else is set to 0.

Source_Type
The (stellar) spectral type or else the morphological type according to the following rubric:

      BLL: BL Lac object
       IR: Infrared source
      LXB: Low-mass X-ray binary
       WD: White dwarf
      AGN: Active galactic nuclei
      SNR: Supernova remnant
      QSO: Quasar
      Sy1: Seyfert type 1 galaxy
      Sy2: Seyfert type 2 galaxy
      bla: Blazar
      gal: Galaxy
      rad: Radio source
     star: Star

Note_Source_Type
This parameter is a source information flag with the following values:

U : object was identified by the USNO-A2.0 catalog
N : object was identified by NED
X : X-ray object (no optical counterpart found)

Alt_Name
Identification of the X-ray source (NuID means that there was no unique identification possible).

Bmag
B Magnitude from the USNO-A2 Catalog (CDS Catalog <I/252>).

Vmag
V Magnitude from the USNO-A2 Catalog (CDS Catalog <I/252>).

Source_Remarks
Brief remarks on the nature and/or properties of the X-ray source.

Class
The HEASARC Browse object classification, based on the source_type parameter.
