Overview

This table is derived from the Second ROSAT Source Catalog of Pointed Observations with the ROSAT PSPC (Roentgen Satellite Position-Sensitive Proportional Counter) Observed Using the Boron Filter, or the 2RXF Catalog. 2XRF contains arcsecond positions and count rates for 2,526 detected sources from 258 ROSAT PSPC Filter observations covering 0.15% of the sky, including 704 high-confidence detections and 20 obvious sources which were not detected by SASS.

This table contains the complete version of the list of detections (2,526 entries), whereas the short 'high-confidence' version (the HEASARC's ROSPSPCF table) contains 704 detections. The ROSPSPCFTOT table includes many questionable sources that meet the following parameter criteria: false_det = 'f' or deferred = 'D' or not_checked = 'n'. See the documentation below for descriptions of these parameters.

The catalog consists of all primary source parameters from the automated detection algorithm employed by the SASS. In addition each observation has been quality checked, both by automatic algorithms and by detailed visual inspection. The results of this quality checking are contained as a set of logical-value flags for a set of principal source parameters. If a source parameter is suspect, the associated flag is set to a corresponding alphabetical value; parameters with no obvious problems maintain the default, '.', value.

The Second ROSAT Pointed PSPC Filter Source Catalog includes missing sources, i.e. obvious sources which were not detected by the SASS source detection software but which could be easily detected by visual inspection. Missed sources are marked by negative values of their source identification number, i.e. the parameter 'MPLSX_ID' has a negative value for these sources. The only tabulated quantities for these visually identified missed sources are source positions; other quantities (like count rates, hardness ratios, etc.) are not available.

These data have been screened by ROSAT data centers in the US, Germany, and the UK as a step in the production of the ROSAT Results Archive. The RRA contains extracted source and associated products with an indication of reliability for the primary parameters.

Provenance

This table was created by the HEASARC in May 2012 based on the file rospspcfcat.txt obtained from the MPE ROSAT Results Archive site (which is no longer available, unfortunately).

Parameters

Sequence_Detection_Name
The ROSAT detection sequence number, e.g., '2rf500043n00.135' for the source with the merged source list identification (the mplsx_id parameter) value of 135 from the observation with ROSAT seqid of rf500043n00, or '2rf110133n00.999' for the source with mplsx_id = -1 from the observation with ROSAT seqid of rf110133n00.

SeqID
The ROSAT sequence identification number (e.g. rf500043n00), where the prefix is always 'RF' for a filtered PSPC pointed observation, and next 6 characters are the ROSAT observation request sequence number or ROR, with the final 3 characters after the ROR number being the follow-on suffix containing the index identifier.

Name
The 2RXF source designation, e.g., '2RXF J000548.1+285515', based on the J2000.0 equatorial coordinates of the source.

RA
The Right Ascension of the source in the selected equinox. This was given in J2000.0 decimal degrees to a precision of 10-4 degrees (0.36 arcseconds) in the original table.

Dec
The Declination of the source in the selected equinox. This was given in J2000.0 decimal degrees to a precision of 10-4 degrees (0.36 arcseconds) in the original table.

LII
The Galactic Longitude of the source.

BII
The Galactic Latitude of the source.

Error_Radius
The uncertainty in the source position, in arcseconds.

Count_Rate
The estimated net count rate of the source in PHA channels 11 to 235 (0.1 - 2.4 keV) from either ML or MDETEC (if the mdet parameter has a value of 'M'), in counts per second. (The ML algorithm was never run for sources further than 20 arcminutes from the field center).

Count_Rate_Error
The uncertainty in the net count rate of the source, in counts per second.

Md_Like
The source likelihood from the L/MDETEC algorithm, MD_LIKE. If the value is >= 1000, it has been truncated to 999.9.

Off_Axis
The off-axis angle of the source averaged over the observation, in arcminutes.

Exposure
The exposure time for the source, in seconds.

Vary
The source variability flag, with the possible values of 'NEGATIVE' (not variable), or 'POSSIBLE' for possible variable.

SrcFlags
This parameter contains a concise summary of the 13 source flag values for the given source in the order given below (these values are also given as individual parameters), where a '.' value means that the flag is not set:

    c=CONFUSED    : close sources confused detection algorithm
    d=DET_STRUCT  : source near detector structure
    e=EXTENDED    : source is probably resolved
    f=FALSE_DET   : detection judged to be spurious
    i=INTEN_SUSP  : source intensity suspect
    s=SPEC_SUSP   : source spectrum suspect
    l=LTC_SUSP    : source lightcurve may be suspect
    m=MULT_DET    : complex emission split into individual sources
    n=NOT_CHECKED : source not checked visually by operator
    p=POS_SUSP    : source position suspect

Confused
This flag parameter is set to 'c' to indicate that close sources may have confused the detection algorithm.

Det_Struct
This flag parameter is set to 'd' to indicate that the source is near a detector structure.

Extended
This flag parameter is set to 'e' to indicate that the source is probably resolved.

False_Det
This flag parameter is set to 'f' to indicate that the detection is judged to be spurious.

Inten_Susp
This flag parameter is set to 'i' to indicate that the source intensity is suspect.

Spec_Susp
This flag parameter is set to 's' to indicate that the source spectrum is suspect.

Ltc_Susp
This flag parameter is set to 'l' to indicate that the source lightcurve is suspect.

Mult_Det
This flag parameter is set to 'm' to indicate that this is complex emission split into individual sources.

Not_Checked
This flag parameter is set to 'n' to indicate that the source was not checked visually by an operator.

Pos_Susp
This flag parameter is set to 'p' to indicate that the source position is suspect.

Associated
This flag parameter is set to 'a' to indicate that another source nearby may be influencing the derived source properties.

Varflg_Susp
This flag parameter is set to 'v' to indicate that the SASS variability flag is suspect.

Within_Ext
This flag parameter is set to 'w' to indicate that the source is within extended emission.

SeqFlags
This parameter contains a concise summary of the 8 sequence flag values for the given source in the order given below (these values are also given as individual parameters), where a '.' value means that the flag is not set:

     D=DEFERRED   : Field not visually examined by operator [always off]
     A=ASP_SUSP   : Aspect solution suspect [always off]
     B=BKG_SUSP   : Background suspect

Deferred
This flag parameter is set to 'D' to indicate that the source field was not visually examined by an operator (never set in this table).

Asp_Susp
This flag parameter is set to 'A' to indicate that the aspect solution is suspect (never set in this table).

Bkg_Susp
This flag parameter is set to 'B' to indicate that the background is suspect.

Ext_Emis
This flag parameter is set to 'E' to indicate that there is extended emission in this field.

Field_Fdet
This flag parameter is set to 'F' to indicate that there are false detections in this field.

Src_Miss
This flag parameter is set to 'M' to indicate that there are source in this field which were missed.

Slis_Mis
This flag parameter is set to 'S' to indicate that no source list was available.

Expo_Map
This flag parameter is set to 'X' to indicate that the exposure map is incorrect.

QC_Date
The date that the sequence and source were checked.

QC_Site
The site of the sequence and source checking, e.g., GSFC, MPE or SAO.

QC_Name
The identification of the responsible quality checker.

Comments
Comments on the source: the only non-blank value is 'misse' for sources that were missed by the SASS detection algorithm.

Begin_Date
The observation start date.

End_Date
The observation finish date.

ObsID
An alternate observation identifier, e.g., US400623H.N1.

Site
The data processing site, either 'MPE' or 'USRS'.

Im_X
The blocked X-position of the source, in pixels, where 1 pixel is 15 arcsecond by 15 arcseconds.

Im_Y
The blocked Y-position of the source, in pixels, where 1 pixel is 15 arcsecond by 15 arcseconds.

Im_X_Error
The error in the blocked X-position of the source, in pixels, where 1 pixel is 15 arcsecond by 15 arcseconds.

Im_Y_Error
The error in the blocked Y-position of the source, in pixels, where 1 pixel is 15 arcsecond by 15 arcseconds.

Ribdist
The corrected source-rib distance, in arcminutes.

Srcdist
The corrected source-nearest source distance, in arcminutes. (The HEASARC notes that there are 31 detections with values of 999 much bigger than the PSPC field of view, the significance of these values is not known.)

Vignetting
The vignetting factor V at the source position, i.e., the number that the observed count rate C was divided by to give the corrected net on-axis equivalent count rate N , i.e. N = C/V.

Background
The background count rate for the observation, in units of counts s-1 arcmin-2. (Values of 100 or greater have been truncated to 99.99).

Priority
The source detection string flags. These flags indicate the sliding window detection history using either the background map (MDETEC) or the local background (LDETEC), in the hard, soft and broad bands, and take the values 0 for no detection, or 1 for a detection. The order of the flags is: MDETEC-broad, LDETEC-broad, MDETEC-hard, LDETEC-hard, MDETEC-soft and LDETEC-soft.

Detect_Band
This flag parameter indicates in which band the ML detection occurred, as follows:

XY_Size
The width of the detect square, in arcseconds.

MPLSX_ID
The source number from the merged source list (MPLSX). The 2RXF Catalog includes 'missing' sources, i.e. obvious sources which were not detected by the SASS source detection software but which could be easily detected by visual inspection. Missed sources are marked with negative values of the mplsx_id parameter.

Mdet
This flag parameter is set to 'M' to indicates that the count rate and other parameters were obtained using MDETEC rather than LDETEC.

ML_Like
The source likelihood from the ML algorithm, ML_LIKE. If the value is >= 10,000, it has been truncated to 9,999.

Extraction_Radius
The source extraction radius used in the ML algorithm, in arcseconds.

Extent
The width (sigma) of the Gaussian fitted to the source to characterize its extent, in arcseconds.

Extentlik
The likelihood of the source being extended. If the value is >= 10,000, it has been truncated to 9,999.

Csq_Flag
The source variability based on the chi2 test, where '.' means not variable, 'c' means variable.

Ks_Flag
The source variability based on the K-S test, where '.' means not variable, 'k' means variable.

U_Flag
The source variability based on the U test, where '.' means not variable, 'u' means variable.

Fft_Flag
The source variability based on the FFT test, where '.' means not variable, 'f' means variable.

Hardness_Ratio_1
The source hardness ratio HR1 defined by: HR1 = ( B - A ) / ( B + A ) , where A is the count rate in the PHA channels range of 11 - 41 (~ 0.1 - 0.4 keV), and B is the count rate in the PHA channels range of 52 - 201 (~0.5 - 2.0 keV). Values >= 100.0 have been truncated to 99.99.

Hardness_Ratio_1_Error
The error in the hardness ratio HR1. Values >= 10.0 have been truncated to 9.99.

Hardness_Ratio_2
The source hardness ratio HR2 defined by: HR2 = ( D - C ) / ( D + C ) , where C is the count rate in the PHA channels range of 52 - 90 (~0.5 - 0.9 keV), and D is the count rate in the PHA channels range of 91 - 201 (~0.9 - 2.0 keV)

Hardness_Ratio_2_Error
The error in the hardness ratio HR2. Values >= 10.0 have been truncated to 9.99.

Counts_A
The net source counts in the A band, PHA channels range of 11 - 41 (~0.1-0.4 keV).

Counts_B
The net source counts in the B band, PHA channels range of 52 - 201 (~0.5-2.0 keV).

Counts_C
The net source counts in the C band, PHA channels range of 52 - 90 (~0.5-0.9 keV).

Counts_D
The net source counts in the D band, PHA channels range of 91 - 201 (~0.9-2.0 keV).

Counts_A_Error
The mean error in the net source counts in the A band.

Counts_B_Error
The mean error in the net source counts in the B band.

Counts_C_Error
The mean error in the net source counts in the C band.

Counts_D_Error
The mean error in the net source counts in the D band.

Chipl
The reduced chi2 of the power-law fit to the net source spectrum. If the value is >= 100, it has been truncated to 99.9.

Chirs
The reduced chi2 of the Raymond-Smith model fit to the net source spectrum. If the value is >= 100, it has been truncated to 99.9.
