ATHDFSOID - Australia Telescope Hubble Deep Field-South Optical Identifications Catalog

HEASARC
Archive

Overview

The Australia Telescope Hubble Deep Field-South (ATHDF-S) survey of the Hubble Deep Field-South (HDF-S) reaches sensitivities of ~ 10 µJy (µJy) at 1.4, 2.5, 5.2, and 8.7 GHz, making the ATHDF-S one of the deepest surveys ever performed with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA). This table contains the optical identifications of the ATHDF-S radio sources (the radio data from which are available in summarized form in the HEASARC ATHDFSCCAT table) using data from the literature. The authors find that ~ 66% of the radio sources have optical counterparts to an I magnitude of 23.5 mags. Deep Hubble Space Telescope (HST) imaging of the area identifies a further 12% of the radio sources. In this table, the authors present data from new spectroscopic observations for 98 of the radio sources and supplement these spectroscopic redshifts with photometric ones calculated from five-band optical imaging.

The radio observations and data reduction are detailed in Papers I-III of this series:

I   = Norris et al., 2005, AJ, 130, 1358;
II = Huynh et al., 2005, AJ, 130, 1373, available at the HEASARC as the
       ATHDFS1P4G table;
III = Huynh et al., 2007, AJ, 133, 1331, available at the HEASARC as the
       ATHDFSCCAT and ATHDFS3FRQ tables.
Palunas et al. (2000, ApJ, 541, 61) observed the HDF-S region using the Big Throughput Camera (BTC) on the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO) 4m during 1998 September. Images were taken in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) u, Johnson B and V, and Cousins R and I filters. In addition, the authors obtained spectra of the ATHDF-S radio sources over two service nights in 2001 July and 2003 October using the multi-fiber 2dF instrument of the Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT). They acquired low-resolution (9 Angstrom) spectra over the wavelength range from 3800 to 8000 Angstroms.

Provenance

This table was created by the HEASARC in December 2012 based on the CDS Catalog J/AJ/135/2470 files table1.dat and table10.dat which contain the entire contents of Tables 1 and 10 from the published paper.

Parameters

Name
The source designation for the ATHDF-S radio sources, e.g., 'ATHDFS JHHMMSS.s+DDMMSSA', as given by the authors and recommended by the CDS Dictionary of Nomenclature of Celestial Objects, using the 'ATHDFS' prefix (Australia Telescope Hubble Deep Field-South) and the J2000.0 equatorial coordinates of the source. The suffixes 'A', 'B', etc., are used for components of multiple sources.

RA
The Right Ascension of the radio source in the selected equinox. This was not given in the present reference (Paper IV) but was taken from Table 9 of paper III, the 'Combined ATHDFS Catalog'. The RA was given therein in J2000.0 coordinates to a precision of 0.01 seconds of time.

Dec
The Declination of the radio source in the selected equinox. This was not given in the present reference (Paper IV) but was taken from Table 9 of paper III, the 'Combined ATHDFS Catalog'. The Dec was given therein in J2000.0 coordinates to a precision of 0.1 arcseconds.

LII
The Galactic Longitude of the radio source.

BII
The Galactic Latitude of the radio source.

CTIO_Flag
This flag parameter gives the status of the CTIO counterpart to the radio source:

      YES = there is a CTIO counterpart within the 1.8 arcsec matching radius,
       NO = there is no CTIO counterpart within the 1.8 arcsec matching radius,
        S = there is a nearby bright star which may affect the photometry,
      OUT = the source lies outside of the CTIO images.

CTIO_Source_Number
The CTIO source ID, corresponding to the source number from the CTIO Catalog (P. Palunas et al. 2008, submitted).

Umag
The SDSS u-band magnitude (in the AB System) of the CTIO counterpart to the radio source.

Umag_Error
The rms error in the corresponding magnitude.

Bmag
The Johnson B-band magnitude (in the AB System) of the CTIO counterpart to the radio source.

Bmag_Error
The rms error in the corresponding magnitude.

Vmag
The Johnson V-band magnitude (in the AB System) of the CTIO counterpart to the radio source.

Vmag_Error
The rms error in the corresponding magnitude.

Rmag

The Cousins I-band magnitude (in the AB System) of the CTIO counterpart to the radio source.

Imag_Error
The rms error in the corresponding magnitude.

Phot_Redshift
The photometric redshift zphot of the CTIO counterpart to the radio source. The technique for calculating the zphot values is described in section 4 of the reference paper.

Phot_Redshift_Error
The uncertainty in the photometric redshift zphot. The reliability of the zphot estimates is described in section 4 of the reference paper.

Wfpc2_Flag

Redshift
The spectroscopic redshift z of the counterpart derived from the 2dF low-resolution spectrum. Redshifts were obtained for 98 out of the 268 targeted sources.

Redshift_Flag
This flag parameter represents the quality Q of the 2dF spectroscopy from which the redshift was obtained. A value of 3 indicates three or more lines were identified, and hence the redshift is very well determined. Two, one or no lines identified are indicated by Q values of 2, 1 or 0, respectively.

H_Beta_Flux_Limit
This parameter is set to '<' if the corresponding parameter value is an upper limit rather than an actual measurement.

H_Beta_Flux
The H-beta line flux, in CCD Counts, of the optical counterpart to the radio source as measured in the 2dF spectrum.

H_Beta_Flux_Error
The uncertainty in the corresponding line flux, in CCD counts.

O_III_Flux_Limit
This parameter is set to '<' if the corresponding parameter value is an upper limit rather than an actual measurement.

O_III_Flux
The O III 5007-Angstrom line flux, in CCD Counts, of the optical counterpart to the radio source as measured in the 2dF spectrum.

O_III_Flux_Error
The uncertainty in the corresponding line flux, in CCD counts.

H_Alpha_Flux
The H-alpha line flux, in CCD Counts, of the optical counterpart to the radio source measured in the 2dF spectrum.

H_Alpha_Flux_Error
The uncertainty in the corresponding line flux, in CCD counts.

N_II_Flux_Limit
This parameter is set to '<' if the corresponding parameter value is an upper limit rather than an actual measurement.

N_II_Flux
The N II 6584-Angstrom Line Flux line flux, in CCD Counts, of the optical counterpart to the radio source measured in the 2dF spectrum.

N_II_Flux_Error
The uncertainty in the corresponding line flux, in CCD counts.

Spectra_Comments
This parameter contains comments on the optical 2dF spectra, including which lines were observed.

Broad_Type
A broad classification of the optical spectrum of the counterpart to the radio source, given for those 98 sources for which spectroscopic redshifts were obtained (this field is left blank for the remaining 375 sources), and coded as follows:

      abs = galaxy with absorption-line spectrum (22/98 = 22%)
       sf = star-forming galaxy (36/98 = 37%)
       sy = Seyfert galaxy (6/98 = 6%)
       BL = broad-line AGN (7/98 = 7%)
      unc = unclassified object

Class
The HEASARC Browse object classification based on the value of the broad_type parameter.
