Overview

This table contains results from the first Galactic Plane (GP) Survey at 8.35 and 14.35 GHz (3.6 and 2.1 cm). In this project, the first images of the GP in the galactic latitude range |b| < 5 degrees and the galactic longitude range -15 degrees < l < 255 degrees at 8.35 and 14.35 GHz were presented. These observations used the National Radio Astronomy Observatory-NASA Green Bank Earth Station to survey the sky simultaneously at these two frequencies. These GPA data are the first results from the GP Survey observations, a program to monitor this portion of the sky at 8.35 and 14.35 GHz. The GP Survey series is intended to detect short-lived radio sources. In their published paper, the authors presented four independent observations of the Galactic plane, combined to provide a set of reference images of the Galactic plane. This first GPA survey covers 0.82 steradian (6.5%) of the sky. This table conatins a source list of all sources which were brighter than 0.9 Jy at 8.35 GHz and also of all sources brighter than 2.5 Jy at 14.35 GHz. Provenance

This table was created by the HEASARC in December 2004 based on CDS catalog J/AJ/119/2801/, tables s8.dat and s14.dat.

HEASARC Implementation

The HEASARC has combined the data from the two originating CDS tables into this one current table, which consquently closely resembles Table 3 of the published version of this catalog. The HEASARC has also converted the units of the four flux parameters from Janskies (Jy) to milliJanskies (mJy) in order to make it more compatible with the HEASARC's other radio catalogs.

Parameters

Name
The GPA source designation, using the recommended prefix and a numerical string based on the source's galactic coordinates (if detected at 8.35 GHz, the position at this frequency is used, else the position at 14.35 GHz is used). An alternative prefix of [LMD2000b] can also be used instead of GPA for these sources.

RA
The Right Ascension of the peak position of the radio source brightness for the selected equinox. In the original published catalog, RAs were given for the J2000.0 equinox and with a precision of 0.1 seconds. If the source was detected at 8.35 GHz, the position at this frequency is used, else the position at 14.35 GHz is used.

Dec
The Declination of the peak position of the radio source brightness for the selected equinox. In the original published catalog, declinations were given for the J2000.0 equinox and with a precision of 1 arcsecond. If the source was detected at 8.35 GHz, the position at this frequency is used, else the position at 14.35 GHz is used.

RA_2_cm
The Right Ascension at 14.35 GHz (2.1 cm) of the peak position of the radio source brightness for the J2000.0 equinox. In the original published catalog, RAs were given for the J2000.0 equinox and with a precision of 0.1 seconds.

The Declination at 14.35 GHz (2.1 cm) of the peak position of the radio source brightness for the J2000.0 equinox. In the original published catalog, declinations were given for the J2000.0 equinox and with a precision of 1 arcsecond.

Flux_2_cm
The peak flux density, in mJy, of the radio source at 14.35 GHz (2.1 cm).

Int_Flux_2_cm
The integrated flux density, in mJy, of the radio source at 14.35 GHz (2.1 cm).

Major_Axis_2_cm
The major axis of the deconvolved radio source at 14.35 GHz (2.1 cm), in arcminutes.

Minor_Axis_2_cm

Spectral_Index
The spectral index SI of the radio source, given for sources detected at both frequencies f, defined by the relation S ~ f**SI, and based on the total flux density of the source.

Alt_Name
A commonly used alternative name for the source.
