Overview

This table contains the results of a detailed X-ray spectral analysis of a sample of 123 X-ray sources detected with XMM-Newton in the Lockman Hole field. This is the deepest observation carried out as yet with XMM-Newton with more that 600 ks of good EPIC-pn data.There are spectra with good signal to noise (>500 source counts) for all objects down to 0.2 - 12 keV fluxes of 5 x 10-15 erg/cm2/s (the flux limit is 6 x 10-16 erg/cm2/s in the 0.5 - 2.0 and 2 - 10 keV bands). At the time of the analysis, the authors had optical spectroscopic identifications for 60% of the sources, 46 being optical type-1 AGN and 28 optical type-2 AGN. Using a single power law model, their sources' average spectral slope hardens at faint 0.5 - 2 keV fluxes but not at faint 2 - 10 keV fluxes.

This table was created by the HEASARC in June 2007 based on CDS Catalog J/A+A/444/79, file table8.dat.

Parameters

Source_Number
A uniquely identifying number for the X-ray source.

Name
The designation for the X-ray source using the '[MBC2005] ' prefix (for Mateos, Barcons, Carrera, 2005) and the source number, as recommended by the CDS Dictionary of Nomenclature of Celestial Objects.

Rds_Xray_Number
The name for the ROSAT counterpart to the XMM-Newton X-ray source from the ROSAT Deep Survey (RDS) sources in the Lockman Field (Hasinger et al. 1998, A&A, 329, 482) using the format 'RDS NNN' where NNN is the ROSAT source number.

Rds_Optical_Number
The name for the proposed optical counterpart to the ROSAT Deep Survey counterpart of the XMM-Newton X-ray source, from Schmidt et al. 1998, A&A, 329, 495) using the format 'RDS NNNNA' where NNNN is the ROSAT source number and the letters A, B, etc., identify specific optical counterparts.

RA
The Right Ascension of the center of the region used to extract the spectrum of the X-ray source, in the selected equinox. The coordinates given are not the X-ray source positions themselves: these will be given in the full Lockman Hole catalog (H. Brunner et al., in preparation), notice. The RA was given in J2000,0 coordinates to a precision of 0.01 seconds of time in the original table.

Dec
The Declination of the center of the region used to extract the spectrum of the X-ray source, in the selected equinox. The coordinates given are not the X-ray source positions themselves: these will be given in the full Lockman Hole catalog (H. Brunner et al., in preparation), notice. The Dec was given in J2000,0 coordinates to a precision of 0.01 arcseconds in the original table.

LII
The Galactic Longitude of the center of the region used to extract the spectrum of the X-ray source.

BII
The Galactic Latitude of the center of the region used to extract the spectrum of the X-ray source.

Source_Type
The source classification from optical spectroscopy: 'AGNI' for a type-1 AGN, or 'AGNII' for a type-2 AGN

Source_Type_Flag
This parameter is set to 'BQ' if the source is a broad absorption line (BAL) QSO.

Redshift
The redshift of the source.

Best_Fit_Spect_Model
The best-fit X-ray spectral model as follows:

     SPL  = Single power law
     APL  = Absorbed power law
     SE   = Soft excess emission
     CAPL = Absorption with partial covering absorber
     2SPL = Two power laws (to fit spectral hardening at high energies)

Spectral_Index
The power-law spectral slope of the best-fit model.

Spectral_Index_Neg_Err
The lower-limit negative error in the power-law spectral slope.

Spectral_Index_Pos_Err
The upper limit positive error in the power-law spectral slope.

Log_NH_Excess
The logarithm of the column density of the excess absorption, in atoms cm-2. This is the intrinsic rest-frame absorption if the source is already identified, else it is the observed absorption if the source is still unidentified.

Log_NH_Excess_Neg_Err
The lower-limit negative error in the logarithm of the column density of the excess absorption, in atoms cm-2.

Log_NH_Excess_Pos_Err
The upper-limit positive error in the logarithm of the column density of the excess absorption, in atoms cm-2.

SB_Flux
The X-ray source flux in the 0.5 - 2 keV energy band, in erg/s/cm2.

HB_Flux
The X-ray source flux in the 2 - 10 keV energy band, in erg/s/cm2.

Log_Lx_SB
The logarithm of the source luminosity in the 0.5 - 2 keV rest-frame band, in erg/s. The luminosities are corrected for the effect of absorption.

Log_Lx_HB
The logarithm of the source luminosity in the 2 - 10 keV rest-frame band, in erg/s. The luminosities are corrected for the effect of absorption.

Class
The HEASARC Browse object classification, based on the value of the source_type parameter.
