They're different! Don't try to read a double precision floating point number written by a VAX on an Alpha and vice versa. I'm told there's a compiler flag to get around this problem on the Alphas but have never used it. Most OSSE pipeline stuff is written to be run on the VAX and should not be ported to the Alpha unless you know what you're doing!
