Vela and Puppis Supernova Remnants
ROSAT survey image of the Vela and Puppis supernova remnants. The field is 14 x 14 degrees in area and shows the considerable structure of the diffuse X-ray emission. The Vela remnant covers most of the field with the Puppis remnant being the bright knot in the upper right. The Vela remnant lies at a distance of 1,500 light years. The Objects A - F are moving radially outward from a point roughly 15 arc minutes from the vela pulsar (the bright point source near the middle of the field) and are thought to be checks of material "shot" from the original explosion.
