ROSAT Status Report #56:

May 6, 1993

        ****************************************************
        *** Initial US release of Public German, UK Data ***
        ****************************************************

The US ROSAT Project is pleased to announce the initial distribution of German and UK public ROSAT data to the US ROSAT Public Data Archive. This initial release consists of 42 datasets which went public during the month of Jan 1993. Distribution of German and UK public data is continuing. It is expected that within a few days of this announcement, data that went public during February 1993 will also be available through the USRPDA, followed by data which went public during March and April 1993. Present plans call for the distribution to the USRDPA of German and UK data with public dates prior to 1 Jan 1993 after the ingest of the April 1993 data.

The list of data sets included in the initial distribution is appended below. Information about German and UK datasets in the USRPDA will soon be available through the MIPS DistribList database and the HEASARC BROWSE tables.

How to Request German/UK data from the USRPDA:

Users will shortly have the capability to request German or UK data from the USRPDA via MIPS or BROWSE. Until that time, users can request electronic transfer of data directly from NDADS via the ARMS interface. Users should send an e-mail message to

NDADS::ARCHIVES

or

archives@ndads.gsfc.nasa.gov

The subject line should read

request rosat

where = FITS, BASIC, DERIVED, ANCILLARY, CALIBRATION or ALL. The correspondence between NDADS data_type and the ROSAT data products is given below:

The body of the letter should contain the dataset_id(s) in the form

w

where = p for unfiltered PSPC, f for filtered PSPC, or h for HRI and = the six digit ROR number.

You may request more than one dataset at a time

For example, to request FITS-type data from om the datasets 200423 (filtered) and 200194 (unfiltered) a DECNet user would send the following e-mail:

To:     ndads::archives
Subj:   request rosat fits

wp200194
