Remote Observing with RXTE

The RXTE SOF provides the capability of remotely monitoring your observation through a selected subset of the tools that are used by SOF staff themselves. With these tools, as well as monitoring your observation, you can also send data and plots to yourself via email in ASCII and PostScript formats respectively.

Our previous version of remote observing, which involved SOF staff remotely displaying a program on your computer, has now been completely replaced by a fully automatic version with a WWW interface. To be able to use this you will need the "access key" that is automatically sent to you when the short term schedule is generated.

Public-owned TOOs may be observed using this service by using the 'publictoo' as the access key.

The automatic remote observing utility can be found at:
http://xtesof.nascom.nasa.gov/

Additional information includes:
  • A poster paper describing PCA science monitoring with examples, by Barry Giles (PostScript).
  • The "man" page for pcaRtClient
  • A manual for Science Monitoring (originally written for use by SOF staff, PostScript format).
  • Science Monitoring Design Document.
