ASCA Weekly
Dear ASCA users:
I am sending an observation plan for the week November 26 to December 4.
ASCA observations for AO1 GO has been progressing regularly at present.
I wish to notice you to check your observation plan (especially target
coordinate, optical axis position for pointing, selection of observation
modes) carefully. We have prepared three positions of optical axis nominal
for 1CCD, 2CCD and 4CCD modes, however, I wish to issue a stern
warning that the nominal axis position for 4CCD mode is not suitable for
observations of point sources. This position is located only 1 arcminute
from SIS S1 gap (2 arcminute from SIS S0 gap) which is just comparable
with the ASCA pointing accuracy. This means that there is a significant
probability that the image core drops into the gap between the chips of SIS.
We are now preparing a fourth nominal position of optical axis, which
offsets by (SX, SY) = (-2.5'. +3.0') from the mechanical axis, yielding an
optimum observation efficiency for SIS sensors but somehow degrading
quality of GIS data due to the frames on the GIS sensors. You can ask ISAS
or NASA/GSFC contact scientists for details. The ISAS contact scientist for
this week is T. Dotani (e-mail address; dotani@astro.isas.ac.jp).
