NOTES FROM THE GERMAN XUV DATA CENTER (ROSAT WFC)
=================================================
1) ROSAT WFC source catalogue from pointed observations
-------------------------------------------------------
A ROSAT XUV Pointed Phase Source Catalogue based on the processing
of the ROSAT/WFC data performed in Tuebingen has now appeared in
press: H.-C. Kreysing, H. Brunner and R. Staubert, Astron &
Astrophys Suppl. Ser. 114 (1995) 465-485. The catalogue covers all
pointed ROSAT/WFC observations from the time period June 20th,
1990 to July 15th, 1994. It lists 1016 individual detections,
corresponding to 321 detected sources. A continuously updated
version of the catalogue is kept on the public WFC archive account
in Tuebingen (login procedure: see header of newsletter).
A subset of 242 observations of non-variable White Dwarfs from
this catalogue which were observed repeatedly (both in the
ROSAT/WFC All Sky Survey and/or during the pointed phase) were
used to calibrate the temporal change of the WFC efficiencies.
>From a simultaneous fit to all available data points the
degradation history of the effective areas for the S1 and S2
filters has been reconstructed and compared to the values from the
most recent WFC Master Calibration File (MCF-12) issued September
1993 by the UK Data Centre. Details on the improved calibration
may be found in the above mentioned paper that can also be found
in the xuv_archive (access see email header).
2) Change of personnel at the GXUVDC
------------------------------------
There is a new coworker responsible for the day to day activities
of the GXUVDC and the point of contact for any technical
questions: Fabian Rother, Tel. +49-7071-295471. For e-mail see
header of this news. Joerg Schaumberger has left.
3) Change of distribution policy
--------------------------------
The GXUVDC at Tuebingen is changing its distribution policy as
follows (valid since 01-JAN-1996):
- The PostScript output of the standard analysis for all public
observations processed since 01-JAN-1996 will be available in the
WWW-archive as well as in the FTP-archive.
- All German PIs of observations containing detected sources will
receive an EXABYTE tape with the data and a printed output of the
standard analysis (this is as before).
- All German PIs of observations containing no detected sources
will receive the PostScript file of the standard analysis via e-
mail (instead of a paper printout by ordinary mail).
EXSAS
=====
Distribution of the new version of EXSAS, compatible with the November95
version of MIDAS, will be delayed until a MIDAS patch (that is essential
for EXSAS) has been verified by ESO for the different Operating Systems.

Bug in XSPEC gain command fixed
There is a bug in the gain command in XSPEC v9.00 which affects its use
with ROSAT PSPC or XTE HEXTE (but not ASCA) data. This has been fixed and a
new release of XSPEC, designated v9.01 is available from the
software/xanadu/ dir on legacy.gsfc.nasa.gov anonymous ftp area. Note that
only XSPEC has been changed and only to fix this bug. A list of the known
bugs in XSPEC v9 can be found at :
