Compton Gamma Ray Observatory Launch


On April 5, 1991, the 17 ton Compton Gamma Ray Observatory was carried into orbit by the space shuttle Atlantis (shuttle mission STS-37). After a flawless lift off from Kennedy Space Center, Atlantis deployed the sophisticated satellite observatory, in an orbit 450 km above Earth.
