Suzaku Guest Observer Facility

How to Request Preapproved TOO Observations

PIs of approved target-of-opportunity (TOO) proposals, whose triggering criteria have been met, can request the observation(s) be carried out by sending an e-mail to

Suzaku Manager e-mail

This e-mail should include:

  • The 5-digit Suzaku proposal number
  • The target name
  • A brief description of how you know the triggering criteria have been met
  • The time period during which the TOO observation can take place, based on target visibility, the expected duration of the event, and any other factors.
  • Any other relevant details, such as an updated estimate of the source brightness and the XIS mode.

Please note that, for urgent TOOs, this may well be the last opportunity to specify the details of the observation. For example, if the triggering message does not contain the XIS mode information, the operations team may simply use what is specified in the original proposal, even if the count rate is likely to differ from the original estimate.
