GSFC XMM-Newton GOF Status Report #210: Guest Observer Funding for successful XMM-Newton AO-10 Proposals

25-Feb-2011

Guest Observer Funding for successful XMM-Newton AO-10 Proposals

As for successful XMM-Newton AO-9 proposals, there is no
explicit FY11 funding available to support AO-10 GO programs.
However, we would like to draw your attention to ROSES 2011:

and specifically the section on the Astrophysics Data
Analysis program (Solicitation: NNH11ZDA001N-ADAP):

Section 1.3.4 of the document "D.2 Astrophysics Data Analysis" states:

"Direct support for U.S. investigators who compete and win
General Observing (GO) time on the RXTE and INTEGRAL missions
has been eliminated, and support for XMM-Newton GO programs
has been greatly reduced. Consequently, scientists with
approved priority A or B GO programs using RXTE, XMM-Newton,
or INTEGRAL at the time of ADAP proposal submission are
eligible to propose for data analysis support under the ADAP,
even if the observations have yet to be executed or the data
are still within their proprietary period. Note, proposers
seeking funding support for an approved GO program are not
relieved of the responsibility to provide a compelling proposal
that meets all of the requirements of the ROSES 2011 NRA. It
is generally not sufficient to simply submit the approved GO
proposal."

In preparing your budget proposals please pay particular
attention to the last two sentences which say:
"Note, proposers seeking funding support for an approved GO program
are not relieved of the responsibility to provide a compelling
proposal that meets all of the requirements of the ROSES 2011 NRA. It
is generally not sufficient to simply submit the approved GO proposal."

The call for proposals for the 2011 ADP program was released
18 February 2011 and NOIs are due 18 March 2011. The close
of the proposal period is 13 May 2011. Successful XMM-Newton
Guest Observers affiliated with US institutions are encouraged
to propose for support through the ADAP.
