Viewport Configurations

XIMAGE provides several viewport configurations files which can be set through the VIEWPORT command (e.g. ximage> viewport filename.vpc). When a viewport configuration file is set, DISPLAY, CONTOUR, and SURFACE commands plot on the same page as many images as the number of viewports defined. When all the viewports has been used, a new page starts.

The figures below depict the viewport configuration files that are installed with XIMAGE, showing where images on the screen will be plotted for each of the viewport configuration. The numbers denote the order in which the viewports are used. Note that the size of the page changes with device, so viewport configurations are optimized for a specific device. Most are optimized for /XTK, /PS and /CPS devices, although they tend to work fine with /XW devices as well. Some configurations don't work well with the /GIF device, so an analogous viewport configuration containing "gif" in the name may be provided.

If a viewport file in the desired configuration is not available, or a nonstandard device is being used, or nonsquare images are being plotted, script vpcgen.pl allows you to generate a file for an NxM set of viewports.
