The XRISM project initiated by JAXA

4 Sep 2018

JAXA has established the project team for X-Ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission (XRISM, pronounced "Krizzem"). XRISM (formerly the X-ray Astronomy Recovery Mission, XARM) will recover the high resolution spectroscopic capabilities of Astro-H (Hitomi). During the Project Initiation Review held in June 2018, JAXA confirmed that all aspects of project implementation, including the management structure, funding and personnel plan development schedule, and risk mitigation system are all satisfactory, and that the necessary countermeasures for the ASTRO-H anomaly recurrence prevention are in place. JAXA officially established the project team on 2018 July 1.

XRISM is scheduled for launch during Japanese Fiscal Year 2022 (April 2022-March 2023).
