The FIT subroutine minimizes c2 using a modified version
of Bevington's CURFIT subroutine.
Bevington's book
Data reduction and Error Analysis for the Physical Sciences,
published by McGraw-Hill in 1969,
is an excellent introduction to statistics.
Anyone interested in a detailed understanding of how CURFIT works
should consult this book.
